Starsector

released in 2010
  • Linux 16GB RAM version last published 2 months, 3 weeks ago
Starsector with up to 16gb of RAM allocated for modding. For extremely heavily modded setups. This one may not be stable. You have been warned.
You need enough RAM. Not for lower end computers. Not for 32bit systems
  • Linux 4GB RAM version last published 2 months, 3 weeks ago
Allocate up to 4GB of RAM to Starsector for a stable experience when adding mods. If you plan on heavily modding the game and you have the RAM spare, you will need to use the 8GB installer instead.
64 bit only. Use Regular version for 32 bit. Editing the .sh file after game installation does NOT change allocation of more/less RAM as forums may suggest as instructions are for a non-Lutris install. Install using one of the other install scripts instead.
  • Linux 8GB RAM version last published 2 months, 3 weeks ago
Allocate up to 8GB of RAM to Starsector for stable modding. 4GB and regular version also available.

  • Linux Regular/32bit 1.5GB RAM version last published 3 months ago
Regular version with 1.5GB of RAM allocated to the game. RAM settings default as set by the devs. Works on 32x/64x systems. Should only be played vanilla or a few lightweight mods only. Since this is a Java game even seemingly inconspicuous mods can pile on the RAM usage.
Editing the .sh file after game installation does NOT allocate more RAM as forums may suggest as instructions are for a non-Lutris install. Install using one of the other install scripts instead.

Starsector is a single-player sandbox style space role-playing game with strategic elements. That’s quite a mouthful, though, so here’s what it boils down to – fly around with your highly customizable fleet, explore, build stuff, blow stuff up, advance your character. The goal is to give you lots of meaningful choices in a malleable world.
