Project Ebonhold

The launcher is a Tauri app, so it needs the Microsoft Edge WebView2 runtime rather than Electron. This installer downloads and installs it into the prefix automatically.

The important part: WebView2 only takes the DirectComposition rendering path on Windows 8.1 and newer, and Wine's DCompositionCreateDevice3 is still a stub returning E_NOTIMPL. On a default win10 prefix the launcher window is therefore completely black, even though it is running correctly and all its msedgewebview2.exe processes are alive. The installer sets a per-application Windows version override of win8 for msedgewebview2.exe; the prefix itself stays on win10. See WineHQ bug 58921. Setting win7 also avoids DirectComposition but crashes the launcher in ole32, so win8 is the value to use.

Tested on Wine 11.16. A recent Wine is recommended; older builds have not been tested and may not render the launcher. No Wine version is pinned here because the build this was tested against is not one of the versions Lutris offers.

The launcher setup EXE is served from an expiring pre-signed URL, so it cannot be linked directly. Download it from https://project-ebonhold.com/support/installation-guide and select it when the installer asks.

After installing, run the launcher, register or log in, and let it download the 3.3.5a client. In the client's video options set Windowed + Maximized: WoW 3.3.5a cannot recover its D3D9 device when an exclusive-fullscreen window loses focus and will die with ERROR #132 on alt-tab.
