Includes the following:- Official 1.1 patch- Jason's Freelancer Patch (for widescreen support)- Draw distance extender (optional), high DPI screen font rendering fix
DO NOT SELECT WINE-GE it breaks the font rendering, use lutris-*, system or proton. An esync supporting version is recommended for slightly better performance.

    What this does:

    1. Includes WMFDIST.EXE and overrides msacm32. This is necessary to stop the game stuttering when ships spawn (see https://the-starport.com/forums/topic/5979/audio-related-freelancer-stutter-npc-ship-spawn )

    2. If your screen resolution is > 1500 pixels high Freelancer has a bug where some text is hidden ( see http://www.adoxa.altervista.org/freelancer/widescreen.html ) the fix is automatically applied if your desktop resolution is high enough

    3. Installs Jason's freelancer patch for Widescreen support

    4. Includes an optional draw distance patch I wrote, it stops a lot of horrible pop in that is present in the original game

    5. Automatically sets your game resolution to your desktop screen resolution so you don't have to manually edit the options ini file.
  • Wine Discovery version last published 3 years, 11 months ago
Installs the Discovery community multiplayer mod: https://discoverygc.com/
  • Wine Freelancer-cdrom-discovery5 version last published 11 months, 2 weeks ago
    Includes discovery mod 5.00.8
Download the ISO from the discovery mod website. Mounting the ISO on Linux as a browsable folder is required prior to install. Then just click through the installers using the default options for everything. On first run, the discovery mod launcher will need to patch the game, then subsequent runs can launch the game from the discovery mod launcher. I was disconnected from the discovery mod server when I undocked in game for the first time, but after reconnecting no further issues persisted.

Freelancer is a space trading and combat simulation video game developed by Digital Anvil and published by Microsoft Game Studios. It is a chronological sequel to Digital Anvil's Starlancer, a combat flight simulator released in 2000. The game was initially announced by Chris Roberts in 1999, and following many production schedule mishaps and a buyout of Digital Anvil by Microsoft, it was eventually released in March 2003.

In the game, players take on the roles of spacecraft pilots. These characters fly single-seater ships, exploring the planets and space stations of 48 known star systems. They also engage in dogfights with other pilots (player- and computer-controlled) to protect traders or engage in piracy themselves. Other player activities include bounty-hunting and commodity trading. The single-player mode puts the player in the role of Edison Trent, who goes through a series of missions to save the Sirius sector from a mysterious alien force. In multiplayer mode, players are free to take on any role and to explore anywhere from the start.
